(WHERE) - A central location.
The « PARIS TEXAS antwerp » project is located in the North of the old city of Antwerp, in the «Sailor’s quarter», right next to Sint-Paulusplaats.
The area has undergone a metamorphosis in the recent past; previously forming part of the red light district, it is now a pleasant residential neighborhood. The area connects the city-center around the cathedral, with the former port, where the MAS (Museum aan de Stroom) now stands.
(WHAT) - A major renovation.
The transformation of the space was realized over a three year period. The building -previously occupied by an import export company- needed extensive renovation. In order to realise the potential of the space and to create a variety of ambiences, emphasis was placed on the preservation of the original structure and re-use of materials resulting in a flexible environment in which light, colour and texture allow multiple interpretations of the different areas.
